Laetitia Ky's feminist hair scupltures
Born and raised in Ivory Coast, she is 24 years old and has always been interested in hairstyling. She defines herself as an afropunk feminist and is highly involved for women's rights.
A black woman wearing her natural hair is a statement. As a matter of fact, black hair, especially in Western societies, but also in African countries, has been pushed aside. By sculptng and embracig her natural hair, claiming it as art, not only does Laetitia Ky send a strong message of self love, but she also empowers women all around the world to raise their voice against sexism. The art works speak for themselves.

Her powerful pictures and performances speak volumes for the ones that have no voices. The video posted down below has been made to raise awareness on female genital mutilation. Unfortunately, cutting the girls clitoris is still going on in some parts of Africa. Sudan lately outlawed excision, but it is still rightful in Djibouti, Egypt, Ethiopia, Erytrea, Guinea, Mali, Sierra Leone, Somalia. Contrary to popular thinking, excision is also practised in Asian countries such as Indonesia, Irak, India, Pakistan, Malaisia, and South American countries like Peru and Columbia. Women from the diasporas are affected, in France, 60 000 women have been cut. Worldwide, 200 Million women have been victims of female mutilation.
